Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

SafeSeat is an independent, student-run marketplace. We take your privacy seriously and collect only the data we need to operate the platform. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you can request its deletion.

2. Information We Collect

Account information

When you join the waitlist or create an account, we collect your iu.edu email address and your stated role (buyer, seller, or both). We use this to notify you at launch and to verify your eligibility.

Transaction data

When you buy or sell a ticket, we record the transaction details: the event, the agreed price, timestamps, and the delivery status. This is necessary to operate the escrow and dispute resolution process.

Payment data

Payments are processed by Stripe. SafeSeat never sees or stores your credit card number, bank account number, or other sensitive financial credentials. Stripe's own privacy policy governs data collected during payment processing.

Usage data

We use Vercel Analytics to collect anonymized, aggregate data about page visits (such as page views and country of origin). No personally identifiable information is collected by our analytics provider.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To operate and improve the SafeSeat marketplace;
• To verify your eligibility as a current Indiana University student;
• To process transactions, hold funds, and release payments;
• To send transactional emails (purchase confirmations, delivery notifications, payout receipts);
• To communicate important updates about the platform;
• To investigate and resolve disputes or prohibited conduct.

We will not send you marketing emails without your explicit consent, and we will never sell your email address or personal data to third parties.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We share data only:

• With Stripe — to process payments (your email may be passed for receipt purposes);
• With Supabase — our database provider, which stores your data on secure servers;
• As required by law — if we receive a valid legal process requiring disclosure.

5. Data Retention

We retain account and transaction data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for legal and operational purposes. Waitlist-only data (email and role) is retained until SafeSeat launches and accounts are created, or until you request deletion.

6. Your Rights and Data Deletion

You may request deletion of your data at any time by emailing hello@safeseat.app with the subject line “Data deletion request”. We will process your request within 30 days. Note that we may be required to retain certain transaction records for legal or tax compliance purposes.

7. Cookies

SafeSeat uses only functional cookies necessary to operate the platform (for example, session tokens). We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated by email.
